Privacy policy

In short

VinoMesa has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. We do not know who you are. The app sends only what it needs to recognise a wine and suggest dishes.

What the app sends

When you scan a label or choose a photo, the photo is sent to our server and passed on to Anthropic's Claude API, which reads the label.

When you ask for dishes or a recipe, a description of the wine (colour, grape, region, style) and the language of the app are sent the same way. The photo is not sent again.

Anthropic processes this data on our behalf in the United States. According to Anthropic's terms for its API, it deletes inputs and outputs within 30 days, unless it has to keep them longer to enforce its usage policy or to comply with the law, and it does not use them to train its models.

What we store

Our server keeps generated dish suggestions and recipes per wine style, so the next person with a similar wine gets them faster. These contain no personal data and no photos. Photos are not stored on our server.

If you rate a match with thumbs up or down, we store that rating together with a random identifier created on your device. The identifier is not linked to your name, email address, phone number or Apple ID.

To prevent abuse, our server counts requests per IP address. These counters are deleted within a few days. Our hosting provider also keeps technical logs for a short period.

What stays on your phone

Recent wines, saved pairings and your own ratings are stored on your device. Deleting the app deletes them.

The app asks for access to the camera to scan labels, and to your photo library when you choose a photo. It reads only the photo you take or pick.

Who helps us run VinoMesa

Anthropic (label recognition, dish suggestions and recipes), Vercel (hosting of the server and this website) and Neon (database). They process data only to provide their service to us.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may ask us what data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. To have the ratings from your device deleted, send us an email. You may also lodge a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Changes

When the app changes what it does with data, we update this page and the date below.
